As recreational marijuana use is on the rise all over Colorado, and several other states now as well, we’re keeping our eyes on whether or not new freedom will surge the tourism traffic.
In Durango, much of the discussion has been about the location of pot shops. In a survey conducted by the Business Improvement District, merchants were evenly split about whether retail marijuana stores should be allowed downtown. The organization opted not to take a position.
Durango’s first recreational smoke shop was shut down mere hours after it first opened on a technicality on the testing process. But it was open and running smooth in less than a week. Now there are around 17 smoke shops within a 40 mile radius of downtown Durango with 7 within the downtown area
